The kitchens of the 1940s were influenced by the restrictions of the War and the progressiveness of the era. New materials and streamlined design replaced many of the dainty ladylike motifs of the 20s and 30s. Rosy the Riveter had places to go and things to do; functionality and timesaving technologies helped her get dinner on the table during the War and she was clearly loathe to give up the convenience when the boys came home, and she married her sweetheart.
